OldSchooled.org is a fun project hitting the interwebs from Singapore that is asking users to submit worlds of wisdom from the older generation, so that it can be collected and displayed online for everyone’s benefit. In the process, for every submission, OldSchooled is planning to donate S$1 until their deadline of December 15th.
The project was created by interns at ad firm Bartle Bogle Hegarty Singapore, and it’s an admirable project because, after all, our grandparents aren’t going to be with us forever. So efforts to preserve things that they’ve learned over the years are very cool in my opinion.
On a personal note, I once started a project like this for my province back in Canada, similarly hoping to collect and map remarkable stories from older residents in order to preserve a little bit of history. That project was a little tricky to execute from afar, but perhaps I can try again sometime. Projects like these might work best as an app that kids can use to record a grandparent’s advice or story, and then file it away by category, or map according to location. (If any developers want to steal that idea, please be my guest!)
In any case, I encourage you guys to check out quotes and photos collected so far, currently displayed on the OldSchool website. And send in your own if you can. Some are wise, some are funny, some are more practical — but pretty much all of them are interesting. I’ve included a few samples here. Skip to the bottom to check out there promo video.
