NTT Docomo (NYSE:DCM) is announcing today that its LTE service has passed the 4 million subscriber milestone on July 22, just 44 days after reaching the 3 million subscriber mark back on June 8.
July has been especially good to the Japanese carrier, after it launched the Samsung Galaxy III handset on June 28, selling over 200,000 units as of a week ago. Surely many of those new handsets account for a lot of new subscribers. Check out the sharp increase for July in the interactive graph below.
Meanwhile in neighboring Korea, SK Telecom (SEO:017670; NYSE:SKM) also hit the 4 million subscriber mark for its LTE service, coincidentally also 44 days after it had reached 3 million. It’s domestic competitor KT Corp has about 1.4 million, and LG Uplus Corp is near 3 million, according to a Korea Times report.
