99labels.comFounded on December 9, 2009, 99labels has grown into a semi-giant in the e-commerce space in India in the span of two short years. It isn’t the typical e-commerce shop we see on Homeshop18 or Flipkart.

On 99labels.com, only members can purchase items on its site. For those who still don’t get the picture, here’s how 99labels describes its services:

As soon as a sale event is planned, you get an e-mail trailer in advance, so that you’re totally in the loop. Once the sale is open, purchases can only be made online, in a secure environment, where your privacy is ensured and guaranteed by us. Sales usually last between three to five days, and are open to members only.

Today, 99labels proudly claims to have one million users who generate 2,000 orders per day. In the early days, 99labels had only about 300-400 orders each day (which is still pretty awesome in my opinion). The two-year process must have been a tough one for the team. But it must now feel so fulfilling for the team who has made the concept work in India and other parts of the world including Paris and New York.

Ishita Swarup, Co-founder and CEO at 99labels

99labels co-founder and CEO Ishita Swarup noted:

We started the concept of private online sales and it’s great to see how far the idea has come. Today we have bigger labels, more international partnerships, and smoother infrastructure to handle the growing volumes… everyone is standing up and taking notice of 99labels!

Info Edge (India) Limited, invested INR157 million ($3.49 million) in 99labels back in May of this year. Other private e-commerce sites which we have heard of in Asia are Brandmile (India) and Brandsfavor (Vietnam).
