Mmbi Inc.’s NotTV mobile television service has surpassed 100,000 subscribers on July 28, just 119 days after the service began in April. The mobile channel costs 420 yen (or $5.37) per month.
The subscriber base was at 61,769 at the end of June, but that total has apparently gotten a big boost from Docomo’s (NYSE:DCM) new summer smartphone lineup, five of which are NotTV compatible. When the service launched there were only two models that were compatible.
The broadcast area is also being expanded, and it was previously stated that the subscriber goal for the first year was 1,000,000 with an eventual target of 10 million members. It remains to be seen if NotTV can hit that goal, but if more handsets support the service in the fall, then it is certainly a possibility.
