Thanks to the folks over on Ad Age for pointing out that American Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte has now joined Sina’s (NASDAQ:SINA) Weibo microblogging service, in an effort to reach out to Chinese fans. His account can be found at weibo.com/ryanlochte, and currently he has about 71,000 fans following him. His countryman Michael Phelps has been active on Sina Weibo (see weibo.com/michaelphelps) since July of last year.
Recently our TechInAsia team was wondering which foreigner might have the most Weibo followers. We don’t know for sure, but our best guess is Japanese porn star Sora Aoi who has nearly 13 million followers.
