Following the news of receiving investment from Docomo Capital for CoolIris’ expansion in Japan and around Asia, most folks are also probably aware that the company has released its app two weeks back, looking really sleek and pretty.
According to CoolIris, the app has raced to the top spot in the iTunes app store in 63 countries in the lifestyle category. It has also made the top five in 98 countries. At present, the app has in total 80 million photoviews worldwide, already has 250,000 photos shared to Facebook, and has successfully achieved double digit next day retentions.
Asia alone accounts of one-third of its total usage, with an approximate total of 25 million photoviews. The app is also in 50 countries around asia, and the top five countries account for over 50 percent of sessions, and that includes India, Japan, Saudi Arabia, China, and Thailand. Of the top 20 countries, there is more iPad than iPhone usage in China, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Philippines.
The app is seeing four times the number of visits from China compared to Singapore, but the latter has double the session time. It comes as no surprise, since the number of internet users in China has already surpassed 513 million, way exceeding the population in Singapore, and the latter has better connectivity and better access to social networks.
It certainly is encouraging for CoolIris to achieve such impressive numbers, especially when it is in its first iteration and early days of its launch. But the team is hoping to achieve more. Derek Tan, head of business development in Asia, also tells us that they are “definitely tracking and learning to make retentions remain high”.
I personally like using the CoolIris app, because I’m a photo sharing freak, but above it all the user interface is really gorgeous, intuitive, and straightforward. The app allows you to view the images stored on your device, Facebook, Instagram, and Google image search. Photo sharing becomes really easy on CoolIris, via channels of email and conversations on the app itself.
