Folks in India are buying new phones at the rate of about 10 million a month. China’s Huawei wants a piece of that, using its India-based production line as a ramp for selling more phones in the country. Not many smartphones get sold in India quite yet, so Huawei’s tactic is to push with feature phones as well.
WantChinaTimes reports:
Victor Shanxin, CEO of Huawei India, said that the company has doubled the number of target cities in India for smartphone sales to 30 from the original 15 and will open 20,000 stores in 200 cities over the next three years.
But Huawei has a long way to go with its own brand in India. Nokia, Samsung, and local telco Micromax are the top three phone-makers there.
