China Mobile (NYSE:CHL; HKG:0941), the nation’s biggest mobile telco, has said that it has begun discussions to possibly invest in USTC iFlytek (SHE:002230), a local maker of Chinese-language voice recognition software. iFlytek specializes in both text-to-speech and general speech-recognition tech. It’d be pure speculation to say that this might lead to some kind of Siri-like feature making its way into China Mobile’s series of officially released budget smartphones.
