Global Entrepreneurship Program Indonesia (GEPI) and the US Embassy are working together to hold the Intellectual Property (IP) App Challenge. The prize? A hefty $5,000 for the best app in two categories: students and professional [1].
Shinta Widjaja Kamdani, a representative of GEPI and the Indonesia Chamber of Commerce (KADIN) said that the reason this competition was held is to increase public awareness regarding the importance of IP protection. Details of the challenge are as follows:
- Apps: Any mobile app on any smartphone platform that somehow promotes IP protection
- Submission deadline: October 31
- Number of team members: five individuals maximum
- Fee: Free!
Do note that only a mockup of the app is required for entry, not a fully developed app. The winners will not only receive the $5,000 prize money, but the organizers will also help them launch the fully developed app in April 2013. For more information and registration, you can see here.
GEPI is also among our Startup Asia Bandung Hackathon sponsors. That event is to be held this weekend. The best app that promotes IP rights at the Hackathon will receive a Google Nexus 7 and a ticket to become a finalist at the IP App Challenge.

Even if there is only one professional on a given team, they will be put in the professional category. ↩
