A couple of months back, my colleagues Willis and Rick wrote about Beepmo launching in public beta.
Today, we’ve received word from Beepmo that it has introduced a new “Discovery” feature, which allows you to better network and socialize while on-the-go. Apart from the new feature, it also allows you to search for users via their names, companies, and titles. You can now, too, sign in with your Facebook account.
In all honesty, I wasn’t that all sure where the “Discovery” button was, and only realized it was represented by the Beepmo logo on the top left corner of the screen whilst in the “People” tab. It then lists the people that the system thinks you would be keen to meet based on the number of connections both you and the suggested user share across the social networking profiles that you have linked up to your Beepmo account.

With this, it gives users a good gauge of the other person’s background based on the number of common friends, and the kinds of business contacts they have. Since it shows the common Twitter following, it also tells you whether both of you have common interests, making it easier for conversations to take place.
Such location-based services are good for real-time networking purposes during events. However, we sometimes do face really crappy internet and connectivity issues at these venues, especially during large conferences. So perhaps this could be taken into consideration during large conferences, and perhaps a good combination of offline and pre-event ice breaking would further enhance the entire Beepmo experience.
It is also now optimized for the iPhone 5. It’s available on iOS, Android, and Blackberry platforms.
