The BBC reports that China’s Huawei is offering Australia “complete and unrestricted access” to its telecoms source code and equipment as it struggles to ease fears over the security of its services. Huawei was recently banned from bidding in Australia’s $37 billion national broadband network project.

The move comes after a US House Committee recommended that American companies not contract Huawei or use its hardware – this despite no solid evidence of spying or Chinese military ties in the full White House report into the firm.

John Lord, chairman of Huawei’s Australian operations, admitted:

Huawei has done a very poor job of communicating about ourselves and we must take full responsibility for that.
