There are millions of mobile apps out there and it is always a problem finding the very best. We can rely on iTunes’ list of best apps which usually includes the likes of Angry Birds, Plants vs Zombies, and Fruit Ninja. That’s not too helpful for someone who has been using iOS for a long time. We’re just sick of seeing the same old list.
To tackle the problem, Tokyo-based Peepapp is offering a social solution to help you discover apps better. Peepapp smartly throws social into app search. Instead of a search bar, users can now rely on their friends to find new and useful apps.
When your friends register for Peepapp, it will auto-detect what apps they have on their phones. For privacy’s sake, users can choose to hide apps to avoid friends from discovering them — say strip poker or a jailbroken softporn app.
Peepapp is also smart enough to avoid apps that you already have on your phone and apps which are already on iTunes’ list of top apps. It focuses just on providing apps using its “Social App Ranking” algorithm — which are basically what your friends are using and which are trending apps among your friends.
The only problem for Peepapp is traction – because all the awesomeness which I have described above will boil down to nothing if my friends aren’t using it. And it’s already happening now, none of my friends are on board yet. So join me today, here (iTunes link).
