It’s no secret that China has, erm, some environmental issues. But what can regular people do to try and fix them, or at least keep from making them worse? That’s the question that Green Bullet, a Chinese startup blog, has been trying to answer since 2008.
The site, which was founded in by Amy Li 2008, operates like a blog. The design is pretty slick and colors are carefully coordinated; it’s clear someone put a lot of time into it. Posts are categorized into several different sections, but nearly all of them are focused on helping people live greener, more sustainable lives. The team obviously puts a lot of time into the content too, often updating multiple times each day. On the “About Us” section of the site, founder and editor Amy Li writes:
We encourage our readers to make a difference by taking baby steps like car-pooling, unplugging an idle computer when leaving home, or recycling beer bottles. We host work shops and discussion groups in Chengdu and hopefully in other cities soon. We started a “green book club” where our readers from across the country can borrow for free.
In addition to the site itself, which does not run ads, Green Bullet also maintains a social media presence via accounts on Douban and both Sina and Tencent Weibo, both with over ten thousand followers. Green Bullet does accept donations via AliPay, and according to its site, the team is growing:
‘Green Bullet’ has grown from an ‘One-Man Army’ to a team with three young ‘after-80s editors, one IT expert, and one marketing expert. We are still very ‘green’ but we believe we are on our way to changing the world.
We’ve dropped the folks at Green Bullet a line via Sina Weibo to try to learn a bit more about what they’re doing. We hope to learn more about this interesting startup that’s looking to solve real problems rather than just make money.
