Nintendo‘s (TYO:7974) newest console, the Wii U, is proving to be a hard sell now that most casual gamers have moved onto smartphone gaming. How bad is it for Nintendo? A source tells Gamasutra that Wii U sales for January 2013 reached a new low, with a mere 100,000 Wii U consoles sold. But by the blog’s own estimates, “sales were somewhere between 45,000 and 59,000 units for the month.”
The Wii U wasn’t given a great start by Nintendo’s joyless unboxing video of the new product back in November last year.
