The makers of Rocket Internet, Oliver Samwer and Marc Samwer, together with Fabian Siegal, co-founder of ClickandBuy (sold to Deutsche Telekom) and Delivery Hero have kickstarted their €150 million (US$193 million) fund called Global Founders Capital.
Global Founders Capital will invest globally and across all stages from seed to growth stage companies. As many of you techies will know, Rocket Internet has been pretty gung ho in Southeast Asia. The fund will very likely have a focus on Southeast Asia. But the fund will most certainly avoid investing in companies competing with Rocket Internet’s products in this region, like Zalora, Lazada, PricePanda, and FoodPanda.
Fabian Siegal, partner at Global Founders Capital, tells us that the funds won’t be organized geographically – ie: there’s no set portion for Asia – but we reckon that a lot will end up being pumped into this region.

PRESS RELEASE
Oliver Samwer and Fabian Siegel to start €150M Global Venture Fund
Munich, 2013/03/18 – Oliver Samwer, an accomplished European Internet entrepreneur who was honored with the Young Global Leader designation at the World Economic Forum in Davos, and Fabian Siegel, who amongst other ventures built Delivery Hero for the past 2 years into a global leader in its industry, teamed up to start Global Founders Capital, a stage agonistic, global focused venture fund to support entrepreneurs worldwide in building and scaling their businesses.
Oliver, who amongst others runs together with his brothers the largest Internet venture building group in the world, employing over 27,000 people across 43 countries sees Global Founders Capital as a way to support entrepreneurship globally
I was fortunate throughout the last 15 years building Internet businesses. I believe the Internet is providing a once in a lifetime opportunity to entrepreneurs around the world. With Global Founders Capital we want to support these entrepreneurs with operational know-how, our network and the required funding to scale their businesses.
Global Founders Capital will invest into all stages from seed round to growth capital. The primary focus of the fund will be to invest into businesses with the potential to become very large in scale either within one market or by expanding globally into other markets.
‘After having built businesses for more than 13 years, it is exciting to now support teams around the world in building their own businesses’, mentions Fabian. ‘Each of us at Global Founders Capital experienced years of hands-on operational success. We know what entrepreneurs need when looking for investors – our vision is to become a valued added part of the team and provide more than just capital. Our pledge to the entrepreneur is to be fast, pragmatic and fair.’
Global Founders Capital will invest out of a €150M fund provided by various successful Internet entrepreneurs. The fund will be headquartered in Munich, Germany.
