Philippines-based Infinite.ly is an application built for brands and marketing managers to track social buzz about their companies (on Facebook and Twitter) all in one page. Co-founder Luis Buenaventura describes his startup as “a central hub for everything a small business owner needs to get started with their social presence.”
The functions are very basic. Businesses can add in their Facebook and Twitter links and find all related @mentions on a single page. Users can also track conversations via search terms within the social sphere. I gave the product a try, but I didn’t find it …uh… really helpful. Hootsuite is way better, or there’s even the Hubblr web app which we reviewed last year and it includes Chinese social networks as well. Hootsuite allows multiple team members to manage the social media accounts of the business, helps track click through rates of links, and also analyze where clicks/fans are coming from, all in one dashboard. Infinite.ly doesn’t have any of these features, so I think it still has a long way to go.
But there are some positives. I really enjoyed the drag-and-drop feature which Luis and team have installed for its main user dashboard. It’s simple and intuitive. Users can choose the related widgets and throw them in. No technical knowledge is required; what you see is what you get. It kept me entertained for quite a bit until the actual outcome which didn’t impress me. But still, there are parts of the product/team which is actually working right. Well, at least in my humble opinion.
I reckon that Infinite.ly might have to switch its focus. To what, I’m not sure. But the social media monitoring space, especially applications that focus solely on Facebook and Twitter tracking, has long passed its golden age. But Infinite.ly surely has a team that is good with design and also a sticky domain name that everyone would remember.
