Qihoo and Weibo sitting in a tree...

Given the dog-eat-dog-then-eat-all-of-dog’s-friends-and-proclaim-himself-king-of-the-dogs nature of China’s interent industry, it’s pretty rare to see tech giants working together. But apparently Qihoo 360 — yes, the same company that got into that massive, dirty war with Tencent — and Sina Weibo are feeling the love. The companies announced this evening that as the result of a cooperation agreement, they would be sharing login credentials.

Specifically, this means that Weibo users can now use their Weibo credentials to log in to 360′s services. Likewise, 360 users can use their usernames and passwords to log into Sina Weibo. The cooperation will also go deeper into product lines and offerings from both companies, including Weibo integration into 360 offerings like its browser and desktop security platform. 360 security features will also be implemented into Weibo to make it safer and less prone to attack.

Some are trumpeting this as the dawn of a new era in cooperation and openness between Chinese net firms, but really, Weibo and 360 (a suite of computer security services) aren’t really competitors. If Sina and Tencent decided to share logins, that would be a miracle. This isn’t so big, but it is interesting nevertheless.
