This is just a glimpse of what iBigToy has on iTunes... Look at the freaking scroll bar. It does look long, doesn't it?
If you want to buy interactive story books for your kids on the iPad, look no further than iBigToy. This Chinese app development firm is deeply focused on building digital story books – according to iTunes, iBigToy has over 100 kids’ story apps. I tried its Pinnochio lite app and I must say it works pretty well.
The graphics are well designed and would surely satisfy the new age of picky, hi-tech kids. Users can choose between Chinese or English and with or without music. The app reads the story out loud which makes it useful for kids who can only understand via listening.
The lite version tells the story halfway and prompts users to get the full version. The price (for Pinocchio) is set at US$2.99. I’m sure a brand-new hardcopy Pinocchio book would cost more than that. Besides Pinocchio, iBigToy also has other stories like Rapunzel, Alice in Wonderland, Cinderella, and the Adventures of Sinbad (I love this one).
It’s cool to have digital books that read out loud to kids. It does make things more convenient for parents. But sometimes, I do wonder if the kids would prefer their parents to read the story to them instead of hearing it from an iPad. One thing is for sure, the app is useful to subdue kids who never seem to tire of a single story.
“Mommy, I want to listen to Pinocchio,” asked baby John .
“Again? Sure, honey. Grab the iPad and click play,” replied Mommy.
