Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) announced today [1] that its App Store has reached the 25 billion downloads mark. And perhaps its not surprising that the person who hit that momentous mark was from China.
Fu Chunli [2] from the city of Qingdao was the lucky person who hit the mark, downloading the free version of the Where’s my Water game and winning a $10,000 iTunes Gift Card in the process.
The growth of iOS has been pretty staggering, particularly over the past year and especially in Q4 2011. Back in January, Apple CEO Tim Cook noted that Apple’s “time and energy [is] in China” right now, and that demand there so far has been “staggering.” Since then of course, Apple has run into a legal challenge from Proview over the iPad name in China, and that issue still needs to be resolved.
It’s expected that Apple’s iPad 3 will be announced tomorrow [3], and you can be sure that folks in China – whenever it becomes available – will be eager to buy those up as well.
