HTC’s One X Helps Make HTC Top Smartphone Seller in China in June

HTC (TPE:2498) has been having a hard time in the past year or so, being outshone in many markets by Samsung, and is even planning to shut its South Korea office. But the Chinese market research firm Sino MR has some good news for HTC, saying that the Taiwanese phone-maker is leading mainland China’s market for non-budget smartphones – 1,500 RMB (US$238) or above – with 16 percent market share. That’s in terms of units sold in June 2012, and will include the recent (and rather late) official rollout of HTC’s One X phone in China. But these things vary wildly from month to month, so it’s no indication of whether HTC will or will not be outgunned by Samsung by the end of the year.
