According to Kontan, PT Inti has announced its plan to produce smartphones and tablets. PT Inti is one of Indonesia’s Badan Usaha Milik Negara (nationally owned companies) formerly known as a main supplier of landline phone network infrastructure for major Indonesia’s telecommunication companies such as Telkomsel and Indosat.
Tikno Sutisna, the new CEO of PT Inti, stated that he plans to release their first smartphone and tablet this year. The planned smartphone will be sold at price of 4,000,000 IDR ($424) and will target the medium- to high-end market. PT Inti will be partnering with Marvell Technology in producing the smartphone.
For the tablet, PT Inti plans to target the low-end market. Priced betwen 600,000 to 800,000 IDR ($64-$85), the planned tablet will only support 2G networks. To produce the tablet, PT Inti will partner with a company named IMO.
This plan will mark PT Inti’s business focus transition from business-to-business to business-to-consumer.
