Quran and Teman Ibadah are both apps to help you during the fasting month of Ramadhan. Developed by 7langit, Quran is available on Blackberry while Teman Ibadah also can be downloaded for Android. Targeting a niche audience, 7langit said that both apps are performing quite well so far.
Quran for Blackberry was one of the first apps by 7Langit, released three years ago. The app simply helps you to access the Quran online on your Blackberry so you don’t have to save it in your phone’s limited memory. The app shows Arabic content from Quran verses in a clear font, with translations based on those from the Ministry of Religious Affairs. You can also search a verse, or bookmark those you want to remember. During the holy month, the app’s active users have gone up by 400 percent, say its developers, and every day users read one million verse on average. The app now has 415,000 unique users.
The Teman Ibadah app was started one year after the Quran, with sponsorship as a revenue model (from Indonesia telco, XL) so users don’t have to pay to use it. In this app, the Quran has also been included with an additional recitation feature. A database of mosque locations in Java and Bali, a Wirid reading app, Ramadhan Blackberry themes, and greeting cards app are all bundled in the app. It is available for download from Google Play.
The two apps have been attracting great interest from national TV stations and the development company is preparing more things to come for this coming holiday as well. Previously, we featured Pulkam as a community to help people return home during the holiday, and we are expecting more to come from local startups in Indonesia.
